The 3rd place navy team won it again this
season, with Deskin and Howard going back to back.
We're not sure what it is about these uniforms, but the same situation played out this season, as it did in the spring season.
The 5-6 navy team got by the 2nd place yellow team in a shootout last week, and had to face the 8-3 first place red team today.
"This is the matchup we wanted," said Andy Long, who now regrets not playing goalie.
Dan Lundergan opened the scoring, jamming home a rebound off the backboards.
"Anyone have him on your Bingo Card for opening the scoring in the championship game?" asked the press.
Andy Long cashed in with a rare playoff goal to tie the game 5 minutes later. Then in the final minute of the first period, Dan Ryan was set up by Melito to put the red team up 2-1.
That would be all the scoring for the first place red team.
Flanagan was flying out there, but never had a decent chance to score.
"They had me shadowing him," said Grasso. "I didn't give him any space to work with."
With Flanagan bottled up, Melito tired, and Dan Ryan in the penalty box, Brian O'Keefe went to work. He scored the tying goal in the 2nd, thanks to a diving pass by Ben Kirby.
"I thought he just fell," admitted O'Keefe.
Then in the 3rd, O'Keefe scored on a deflection, then an Ovechkin one timer to make it 4-2 and out of reeach for the struggling first place team.
Boccuzzi shut the door for two periods, and never let the red team back in the game.
"Having Al Peterson out and them having Lloyd in, really changed things for us," noted Cooz.
Congrats to the Navy Continentals for getting the upset win. Fan Duel had them as 3 goal underdogs.
