Breakers ride sub goalie to the title, 3-2.
The 3rd place Breakers got a great sub
goalie performance from Steve Lombardi, goals by Melito, Grasso and
Jimmy D. (where were the A players?) and took the title game 3-2
from the new Evil Empire (Andy Long).
Andy Long scored a fluke to put the red Showboats up 1-0 in the first.
But two quick goals by Melito and Grasso (also a fluke) put the navy Breakers up 2-1. Jimmy D. scored in the 2nd to make it 3-1 Breakers, and that's all that sub goalie Steve Lombardi would need.
Tom Conway made it close by scoring late in the 2nd, but 3-2 is as close as the first place team would get, as they were held scoreless the rest of the way.
Sub goalie Bob Love of the Showboats played well in an emergency role. Neither team had their original goalie, we think that's the first time in 26 years that this has happened.
