The first place Flying High Again team
completed one of the best seasons ever, finishing the season with 10
straight wins, then winning all 3 playoff games.
"I still felt we were the underdogs," said Mike Raimo as he lifted the Coffee Cup with family in attendance.
It was a close game for just over two peirods. Brian O'Keefe scored to make it 1-0 green in the first. In the second, Kevin Flanagan scored to tie it at 1-1, setting up a fantastic finish.
O'Keefe scored again early in the third as green took a 2-1 lead. It lasted only 3 minutes, as Mike Cormican took a pass from Rick Murphy to tie the game at 2's.
Enter Jake Steigerwald. He always saves his best for the playoffs. If you had him on your Bingo card as scoring the Championship Winning Goal, then you're our winner.
He buried a shot the blew by Fuji with the speed of a leaf blowing in the wind for the game winner.
"I picked my spot, nobody was gonna stop that one," said Jake.
Jake Silik and Mark DeFillipis each scored nice goals for the 5-2 final.
Rick Murphy and Dan McCarthy had great games for the yellow team in the loss.
"If we had Chris Kirby, this easily could have been a 5-3 game," noted Rick Armand.
