Loggers rout the Flintheads, 6-0.
The first place red team had a heck of a
regular season, but the additions of Brian Leslie and Bob Powell to
the gold team were just too much for any of the other three teams to
handle.
It's been a while since we've seen a team this loaded, Gotham City
from 1999 comes to mind...see below.
Five minutes into this Championship Game newlie acquired defenseman
Brian Leslie used Andy Long as a screen to beat Vieira for a 1-0
lead. Who knew at the time this would be all they would need.
Derek Osbhar tacked one on later in the period as Gold took a 2-0
lead into the 2nd.
Afterr a failed breakaway by Deskin, he collected the puck in the
corner, and his shot was tipped in by Sean Steigerwald for a 3-0
lead. Deskin would score later in the period for a 4-0 lead.
By the time the third period rolled around the teams were going
through the motion, well everyone but Kramer. He sent Derek Osbahr
away on a breakaway for a 5-0 lead. Osbahr scored again later for
the 6-0 final.
Red had their chances, even Rick Breed. His rebound chance just
missed going in. It would have been his first championship goal
since the mid 60's.
Red went 0-2 on the powerplay, so even with an extra man, they never
really had a chance.
The spread was 4, and the Loggers easily covered that. A good
time was had by all.
