Flamethrowers pull it out late, 3-1.
The Championship Game was a good one, as
the first place Flamethrowers took on the second place Howitzers, in
a rare matchup between the top two regular season teams.
The red team needed OT of game 2 to get to the finals, and this week
with all 13 skaters in the lineup, they needed just about all of the
57 minutes to wrap up the title.
The first period was slow going, as we saw alot of Mike Saia.
Late in the period Darren Aizzanman took a shot that was stopped by
Cooz, then kicked in by JA. Whoops, just kidding folks. The puck
just trickled out of the pads of Cooz, and Rick Armand swooped in to
tap it home for a 1-0 navy team lead.
Then just before the period ended, Tony Onello put on the brakes
just inside the Howitzer blue line, and fed Todd Nichol for a
backhand goal to tie it at 1-1.
After a very good and fast 2nd period, the score was still tied at
1-1.
In the third it went down to the final 1:28 when a Mark Wood shot
from the point deflected off the glove of Armand and past Rollie for
the GWG.
Tony Onello tacked on an open netter with 27 seconds to play to seal
the victory.
One of the better Coffee Cup games we've seen in a while.
