The Green Team had great defense, just
not alot of offense.
A late first period goal by the larger Trevor would hold up, as the
Bored Member celebrated more than the looters in Ferguson, MO as
they took the summer Coffee Cup game 3-0. Eventually Dan the rink
manager had to kick them off the ice.
A 1st period knuckleball goal from self appointed playoff MVP Trevor
Hanson combined with Tom Fuji's stellar 4 save shutout paved the way
for the Members today. The Red squad was brimming with confidence
when Richard Breed showed up with his first new stick since 2008.
"We saw that new stick and knew Richard was ready to get things
going on our 5th line," said 6th line right wing Mike Raimo.
Trevor saved his one back check of the season to thwart a Mark
Melito breakaway chance, which was certain to go in, that would've
cut the Red lead to 2-1.
Asked about the play Hanson said, "I'd heard
about back checking before and I'm pretty sure I've seen league
super hero Andy Long do it every time he's on the ice so I gave it a
shot. Now I can scratch it off my bucket list."
Mr. Irrelevant Tony Onello provided an insurance goal early in the
third for a 2-0 lead. A top corner shot from the point by Rick
Armand with 2:44 left salted the Title Game away.
The Neighbors just couldn't get the clutch scoring chance in this
defensive battle.
On his way out a visibly shaken Jim Wilkinson wanted this reporter
to mention to Mike Saia that the Fall Season opens on September 5th,
since he didn't show up for this game.
